Tony Bond is a seasoned General Manager with over 30 years of senior management experience covering retail banking, telecommunications, insurance and the airline industry. Tony has an impressive track record for introducing new products and in leading and motivating multinational teams to achieve profitable growth.
Tony started his management career in the UK with an insurance company where he was responsible for managing the computerisation of 15 regional life sales offices and for establishing a centralised IT and customer service operation.
In 1975 he joined American Express, initially as a computer operations manager before being selected to join the American Express global executive accelerated management development programme. His first international assignment was as Operations Director in Sweden. This was followed by a series of assignments in the Middle East, North America and the Asia Pacific region where, in addition to developing and launching six new payment card programmes, he also had overall managerial responsibility for customer service and risk management in nine different countries.
In 1992 he joined Rogers Cantel - a leading mobile phone company in Canada - as Vice President Customer Service and Systems Development, where he was responsible for the expansion of the company’s cellular phone business in Western Canada.
In 1995 he joined Standard Chartered bank as Senior Vice President, first in the UAE, and then in the Philippines, where he was responsible for consumer lending and business planning as well as project managing the development and launch of several innovative credit cards programmes.
In 1999 Tony joined Emirates Airline as a member of the senior executive team and played a pivotal role in the development and launch of the Emirates Airline frequent flyer programme known as “Skywards”. During this period, Tony had specific responsibility for developing and managing the airline’s global partnership programme. Here he negotiated commercial contracts with 32 global partners, including major hotel groups, car hire companies, financial services partners and eight other airline partners. He also had management responsibility for the development and launch of three Emirates’ co-brand credit card programmes in the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar.
In 2004 Tony was assigned to Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) in the UAE to project manage the development and launch of the bank’s EMV-compliant Smart Debit card programme and to rebuild and re-launch the bank’s credit card business. He also conducted a major strategic review of ADCB’s ATM business, developing a new remote banking strategy and project-managing the design, development and establishment of ADCB’s electronic banking kiosks.
A specialist in retail banking, card payments, loyalty programme development and international relationship management, Tony has applied his specialist skills across a range of different industries and territories.
