Power Point Presentations

Microsoft Power point does not embed fonts by default.

This means that you may have a font on your computer that someone else does not.

When Windows cannot find the font you specified it will substitute another font, with results that are often not very pretty.

If you do not want to stick to the more common fonts or are not sure if the they will be available on the computer used to show your presentation try embedding fonts.

You have done your sums and figure you can afford the time to have a go at building a Power Point presentation that will 'WOW' your audience and have them hanging on your every word.

There is nothing to stop anyone with enough time creating an audience ready presentation.

Remember no matter how simple getting a few bullet points on a slide may seem good design is not simple or easy to achieve.

Building Your Own Presentations?

Anyway we wish you every success and here are a few tips which may help you along the way:

  • Create a story board, mapping out the main areas of your presentation
( long before you start building Power point slides)
  • Create the content for your presentation
(Avoid big chunks of text and interminable bullet pointed lists. Never try simply copying your brochure)
  • Focus on how your product / service will solve a problem or improve life for your audience.
  • Keeping it simple will help your audience grasp and retain the information
  • Once you start building slides be consistent
  • Choose a clear easy to read font you like and stick with it
(Use colours that contrast with the background)
  • Use special effects with caution
  • Do not use clip art.
  • Be prepared to purchase images to provide the visuals to enhance the message in your text
  • Read - read and then re-read your slides
  • Write speaker notes. These should be easily digested sound bytes, not simply listing what the slide already says
  • Give the final draft to a proof reader as it is very difficult to see your own mistakes
  • Rehearse and time your presentation so that you know how long it takes to
cover all the topics you have included
